| Leathur
Records was Motley Crue's own record label that their debut album was
released on. Leathur Records was actually created by Motley Crue and manager
Allan Coffman. Too Fast for Love was released in December 1981.
There is three pressings of the Leathur Records LP with four
variations. The first press being the rarest. The first pressing have
white lettering on the front cover and a close up picture of Vince’s
crotch. Vince hair was touched up so it would show up against the white
background on the back cover and on the insert photo, the result was not
good and Vince freaked when he saw it but at that time it was too late
to change it. For the second and third press the big air-brushed hair
was significatly reduced, they also made a few other changes to the cover
such as red logo and sunglasses on the back and different photos/retuch
on the insert.
In Januray 29, 1982
Motley signed a deal with Greenworld Records Limited who manufactured
and distributed the third press Leathur LP. The
album was part of what is referred to as a pressing & distribution
deal, meaning that the band retained ownership of the masters and Greenworld
had rights to make the records and put them out. Too
Fast For Love on Leathur Records was also avaliable on cassette.
The band was then
picked up by Elektra and in May 20, 1982 Motley Crue signed their record
deal with Elektra Records. The signing of an agreement between Greenworld
and Elektra to transfer the Too Fast For Love license from Greenworld
to Elektra was also made. Too Fast For Love was ordered to be remixed
for the Elektra re-release. The remix was done by Roy
Thomas Baker. On August 20, 1982 The Too Fast
For Love album is re-released on Elektra Records. The Elektra version
contained a different track order. Other changes was also made, big
logo on the front cover, new group photo on the insert and the song
Stick To Your Guns was removed.
The first Canadian
Elektra/WEA release of the album on LP and cassette featured the original
10-track Leathur Records mix including Stick To Your Guns. This Canadian
release also had the same artwork as the Leathur Records versions and
was released in June 1982, two months before the remixed version was
released. The reason for this was that Motley Crue was about to do a
tour in Canada in June 1982 [Cruesing Through Canada Tour] and Elektra
wanted to ensure that a product was available while the band was touring
the country. Once the remixed version was completed, later Canadian
pressings were the same as the Elektra version everywhere else.
